Suicide is a desperate act and in this short story yellow by Peter Carty, the main character, Jon, ends up making the decision to commit suicide Essay Example

Self destruction is a frantic demonstration and in this short story yellow by Peter Carty, the principle character, Jon, winds up settling on the choice to end it all Essay Individuals with issues that they can't appear to defeat frequently picked the street self destruction. These issues can both be enthusiastic and physical. Also, when the issue, that they appear to have, turns crazy, ending their life unexpectedly is by all accounts the best arrangement. Some even believes that the individuals around them will be grateful when they are no more. Or then again the self destruction could be a method of revealing to them that they ought to have helped them. In any case, self destruction is a urgent demonstration. Also, in this short story yellow by Peter Carty, they fundamental character, Jon, winds up settling on the choice to end it all. Jon, the primary character, is in the late thirties, he is somewhat overweight, yet close to that he portrays himself as being in acceptable state of being. He has a vocation at a magazine, which is the reason he is in Egypt to scuba-plunge since when his stay is over he needs to expound on it. As a rule he doesnt appear to be lovely about his life; he has a sweetheart, yet their relationship is inadequate the quiets between them had increased, at that point protracted into a vacant continuum. Also, his activity circumstance doesnt appear to be any better, since his excursion to Egypt and scuba-plunging is unquestionably something he abhors Jon despised anything dynamic or lively. He associates scuba-plunging with death, which is the reason he is so frightened about it. He is astonished that he will suffocate, and along these lines he can't remain quiet submerged. I believe that what he is generally scared of isn't the way that he could suffocate, no; the reality he would end up ate up of void. You could lose yourself in that, gobbled up and gone always, a bit evaporating in the blue without sound or wave. Buddhist discussed freeing yourself up to void well, here it was close to him [..]. He is worried about the possibility that that he would turn out to be nothing, a nobody. That he would vanish into void. The magazine would release him soon. His composing would diminish, vanish down to a dab and disappear, his better half would have left well before and hed push off from the remainder of his companions and family members. I think the word yellow is in the story utilized in the importance defeatist or simpleton in light of the fact that a quitter doesnt regularly have the guts to confront his own issues. What's more, that is here the subject self destruction comes in. Self destruction is regularly connected with being a defeatist, due to the way that a quitter cannot deal with his own issues. However, Jon then again accepts the inverse; he imagines that ending it all will show individuals that he isnt a weakling or yellow as they call it. He feels that on the off chance that he ends it all while he is scuba-plunging it would maybe look as a mishap and everybody will be influenced by his passing; Bertie, his jumping educator, Brian, the other plunging understudy, his chief, who constrained him to go, and to wrap things up his better half will all observe that they ought to have tuned in to him and in this manner it will make him critical. It appears in yellow nature can conjure musings of passing on. This is the equivalent in the sonnet self destruction note by Langston Hughes. In this the waterway is embodied, being the person who requests that the self destruction drink its water which intends to bite the dust. Nature advises us that were simply changing bits of a riddle and that we dont have control and control over anything and particularly demise. In the event that we contrast Jon with regular daily existence, he ends up in an extraordinary circumstance. I would by and by feel awkward in the event that I was going to scuba-jump, since I dont feel like I am in charge I cannot inhale like in the event that I was above water. This sentiment of no control is what the content What is Reckless Op about? is about. A few people love being in a circumstance where they dont have any control whatsoever. They love rehearsing outrageous games and driving themselves as far as possible. It is their approach to feel that they are invigorated, in light of the fact that they regularly get themselves near death. Be that as it may, Jon doesnt fell an exhilarate by being close. He is uncertain about it. He doesnt like to be near the very edge of life it causes him to feel yellow. Jons life isnt fulfilling and accordingly he picks the path of least resistance which is ending it all. However, the unexpected thing about it is that Jons considers his to be as a not yellow activity.

Multiply Disciples Making Disciples

â€Å"Multiply: Disciples Making Disciples† is a book that is mutually wrote by Francis Chan and Mark Beuving. The book calls upon all Christians to keep up the energy that was quality of the early teachers. The fundamental thought in â€Å"Multiply† depends on the Gospel motivation that is plot in Matthew Chapter 28, refrain 19, where Jesus commissions his pupils to go out and spread the Christian Gospel subsequently changing over new adherents into disciples.Advertising We will compose a custom book survey test on Multiply: Disciples Making Disciples explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The writers of this book mourn that the activity of spreading the gospel has been erroneously disregarded upon Pastors. Therefore, the writers set out to demonstrate that it is the activity of all Christians to spread the Gospel of Christ with energy. The writers have additionally bound with online recordings that concrete the topic of each segment in the book. This p aper offers a review of â€Å"Multiply: Disciples Making Disciples† and a going with study of Chan and Bueving’s work. Francis Chan, one of the writers of this book is a prestigious Christian-writer who has composed different books, some of which have become successes. Subsequently, Beuving is by one way or another doled out the job of a supporting writer in this book. The book starts with an announcement reminding Christians that they were made to make pupils. Thus, the commission to ‘go and make pupils of all nations’ applies to Christians from varying backgrounds. As per the creators â€Å"Christians today are not known for making disciples†¦we have built up a culture where clergymen serve and all of us kick back and ‘enjoy’ the congregation from a distance†¦every Christian is called by God to minister†¦to make disciples†1. The remainder of the book keeps on equiping perusers with the devices that would return them to the obligation of serving and making more teaches. The writers trust that their book will give perusers the certainty and confidence that would empower them to step into the field of God’s wide service. In the book’s forward, the writers had forewarned perusers that the book and its different assets including on the web recordings are not intended to be perused in detachment yet they ought to be shared broadly inside the domains of Christian devotees. The book is separated in areas that bear the subject of teaching and the Christian direct. The main segment is titled â€Å"Living as a Disciple Maker†. This area contains three sections and it is a presentation into the idea of apprenticeship and its importance in the cutting edge times. In this first area, the writers disclose being a pupil in the cutting edge context.Advertising Looking for book survey on religion philosophy? How about we check whether we can support you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This first segment is then joined by another segment that tries to investigate Jesus’ order to devotees to make more educates. These initial two sections are weaved together in the acknowledgment that all Christians are common supporters who ought to be effectively associated with the mission to spread the gospel. In the last part of this first segment, the writers disclose to the perusers how the core of a devoted ‘disciple maker’ ought to be demonstrated. The creators continue to another segment about how Christians should live not as isolated units however as a Church. Besides, the creators set out to contextualize devotee making in a cutting edge church. For example, the book noticed that the significance of Christian cooperation and network has been enormously overlooked in the cutting edge settings. Then again, the setting of ‘mighty holy places/ministers’ has been blended in with pointless promotion in this way fail to observe the obligat ion of the person. The book’s area of chapel is separated in a way that assists people with understanding that they are a piece of the little associations similarly as they are a piece of the worldwide church. Another area is committed on ‘understanding the old testament’, where creators offer an extensive investigations of the Old Testament directly from the hour of creation until the time of predictions about the happening to the Messiah. The writers finish up this segment by taking note of that Christianity is the ‘Kingdom of God’ The last segment in Chan and Beuving’s book diagrams the Christian tenets that are contained in the New Testament. In this area, the creators track the beginning of Christianity from the introduction of Christ until his normal return. The goal of Jesus the Messiah and his extraordinary bonus is investigated with regards to teaching. Moreover, this segment reminds Christian perusers that they are in the last leg of their excursion. The division of the book in segments fills the author’s need of having an adherent lead a non-devotee through it with the perspective on making the last into a follower. The last two sections are especially loaded down with materials that can be of incredible advantage to the two Christians and non-Christians. One principle complaint that I have towards â€Å"Multiply: Disciples Making Disciples† is the sweeping thought that cutting edge Christians are not includes in apprenticeship. As indicated by the creators, â€Å"if you were to ask singular Christians today making devotees, you would almost certainly get scrambled considerations, questionable answers, and most likely even clear stares†¦we are disregarding the commission of Christ†2. Be that as it may, apprenticeship as it applies to the cutting edge society doesn't include going out and yelling to non-adherents and others about the Gospel. In the advanced society, the principal lesso ns of Christianity are known by practically all individuals over the world. Subsequently, the standard of teaching has transformed from the need to lecture the gospel to the goal of speaking to its practicality.Advertising We will compose a custom book survey test on Multiply: Disciples Making Disciples explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Most of the individuals who are against the convictions of Christianity today do as such in the reason that they are ‘impractical’. This idea is additionally bolstered by the way that a few people who are declare to be priests of the gospel can't speak to it in a constructive light. Therefore, the genuine educates today are not the individuals who declare the lessons of Jesus, however the individuals who practice them, in this way going about as light in the center of haziness. For instance, a rehearsing Christian who is known to lead just genuine business amidst present day eagerness and misuse can ‘make disci ples’. Then again, a Christian youth who swears off every single unethical relationship on the record of his confidence can possibly make followers. In present day times, there have been such a significant number of phony supporters who ‘preach water and take wine’. In this manner, the quality of Christianity depends on those whose activities lecture more than their words. All through the book, the writers take an uneven investigate teaching consequently disregarding those whose activities (and not really words) are ‘making disciples’. The book likewise disregards the establishment of the assortment of Christ where various people carry various capacities to the congregation. For example, some are called to serve, care for other people, acclaim the ruler, mend the wiped out, and some offer money related energy to the Great Commission of Christ. In any case, in ‘Multiply† the creators appear to ‘dictate’ the type of teaching th at people ought to take part in. After turning out to be devotees, people are gave with different endowments of the Holy Spirit and these special capacities explain their missions as Christians. Hence, it is significant for the creators to think about these variables when they are sketching out the lacking parts of apprenticeship. In any case, the book gives a fascinating stream and it is a delight to peruse from area to segment. The writers likewise exploit current innovation and transfer an online video for each area in the book. Fundamentally, the writers give a Bible encounter that moves the perusers from the Book of Genesis up to Revelation. It is regularly difficult for anybody to peruse the Bible from beginning to end however this book reflects the delight of such an encounter. Moreover, the creators adhere to the goal of Christian Ministry through the way where they emphasize on the utilization of Bible entries. The book develops a feeling of direction among both new and old Christians. It is workable for a person to turn into a Christian and afterward continue to lose a feeling of direction as time passes by. Chan and Beuving help people to remember their means and become laborers for Christ and his Gospel.Advertising Searching for book audit on religion philosophy? How about we check whether we can support you! The writers convey an effectively streaming book that could be advantageous to the two Christians and non-Christians. The contextualization of the Church additionally fills an extraordinary need en route. I would prescribe this book to any individual who may have even the scarcest enthusiasm for Christian principle. How To Write A Great College Writing Sample

How To Write A Great College Writing SampleGood college writing is a highly prized commodity and does not come cheap. College students spend a lot of time in the classroom, which leaves them little time to write in-between. Poor college writing has a negative impact on all aspects of the education process - from exams, essays, speeches, research papers, book reports, etc. In order to improve student performance, the amount of time spent by students writing college papers should be carefully monitored.Usually, the university instructor or faculty member who grades each paper will have some knowledge of writing. This means that they are likely to give a lower grade to a school paper that is poorly written than to one that is very good. There are several important areas that a writing sample needs to cover, and some of these should include the following:The first important part of any writing sample is to start with the author's perspective. In addition to getting to know the author and their ideas, this helps the reader to see the context of the article. For example, a short essay about a certain event in a person's life would need to mention the date and a few details about the event (the occasion, the people involved, etc). A writing sample should also mention the overall sentiment of the piece, which can be negative or positive. If a person has something to say about an issue, this may be highlighted, such as a different opinion, a right and wrong answer, or an unpopular opinion. The next important aspect of writing samples is the 'main subject' of the article. For example, if the writer is writing about marketing in the college setting, they might consider choosing to discuss marketing. In addition to the main subject, a sample should also incorporate various sections that the author feels will be interesting or that have practical applications. It may include an introduction, a body of writing, and a conclusion. These can all be cut out if the article will be used for another purpose. Writing samples in college writing courses need to take into account the style and nature of the piece. For example, an essay about a particular event would need to discuss how the event affected the person's life. If a person's main concern was how the event would impact their future career, then the writer could add this information to the article. If the main concern was the person's job, then they would need to use more broad descriptions to express the main issues that were brought up by the event. At first, some college writers will balk at trying to write a quality article on their own. However, with a bit of practice, it can become easier and quicker. Students will be amazed at the benefits of using a good writing program and will find themselves bringing in a wide range of different skills to the table.High quality college writing courses provide students with great tools to help them improve their skills. Articles from different sites can be copie d and pasted into writing programs, and students can learn how to add headings, titles, paragraphs, and formatting. It is wise to get involved in projects, and to think about which topics are easier to tackle or which may be a challenge to tackle in a way that makes sense to the student.High quality writing samples can help to raise the standards for all students in college writing courses. They will not only help to improve a student's essay writing skills, but also demonstrate that they can write professionally, and help them to land better jobs. It is possible to write an excellent essay without having to spend too much time learning how to write - the trick is to write fast and with quality content!

Dorothy Day And The Catholic Church - 948 Words

Dorothy Day is one of the most significant activists of Catholic teaching known in American history. It is important to recognize why people congregated to the Catholic religion during the depression in America. Also, how Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin’s The Catholic Worker, promoted peace among the religions and people of America. American Catholics in the 19th century were looking to get along with other Americans and affirm their â€Å"Americanness.† Immigrants arriving in America wanted to show that they were good at participating in American Culture. I believe that by wanting to participate in American culture, they were welcomed into the Catholic Church. The immigrants were supportive of American values, and in the 1840’s made Catholicism the largest denomination in the U.S., which lead to a growth in followers within the Catholic Church. From reading the works of Day, I argue that people congregated to the Catholic Church seeking a community. Part I of Loaves and Fishes by Dorothy Day, starts with Day addressing that she is currently experiencing the third year of the depression. I believe that people living in America turned to Catholicism in time of the depression. The Catholic Church in America supported the working class, along with the poor. I feel that Catholicism saw a rise its numbers in America because of the support that the Catholic Church offered to those who were suffering during rough conditions. I imagine that the poor can relate to Catholicism, because ofShow MoreRelatedDorothy Day Broke Life into Three Stages in her Book, Therese of Lisieux885 Words   |  4 PagesDorothy Day Dorothy Day, a name that is known widely by many of the Catholic faith. Answer: Introduction Organizational leadership is dual leadership system that helps in the systematic management of both individuals and that of groups. For being an ideal organizational leader, one must comprise of some essential traits. An organizational leader must be having a proper well-developed worldview. He must be able to know the different forces working in and around him so that he can lead all his followers in the future. He also needs to have a sound knowledge and a worldview of his organization (Nahavand 2016). This is because he will have to lead an entire group of people within the environment of the organization that is often critical and conflicting. An organizational leader must be having proper talent, knowledge, and skill that combine to make up his overall strength. He must work on himself because trying to train his followers. This paper will mainly deal with the kind of leadership practices prevalent in MOL group which is an oil and natural gas company located in Hungary. MOL grou p has a unique leadership and management practice system. The leaders believe in giving tough challenges to their followers and it is through the completion of these tough and challenging tasks that the employees acquire new knowledge. Analysis The two terms that of leadership and management differs from one another in several ways. It must be taken into account that not every manager can be a good leader. For being a sound and an ideal leader there is some particular characteristic feature that must be present within the individuals. It must be noted that the managers are the ones who usually formulate and lay down the different rules and regulations that are to be followed by the employees of the company. However a leader is one who will take up the responsibility of setting the vision of the organization, It is the leader who is responsible for communicating all the goals of the organization to the employees and it is also the leader who will be inspiring the employees to work together in order to achieve those goals. A management system will always focus on the planning, directing the employees, staffing and any other such organizational activities. However, a leader is one who will be focusing on the different ways of directing those rules among the employees. A leader is one who will be listening to his followers and will make them feel wanted within the organization. For the proper running and functioning of MOL group, it is also very essential to see that the employees are happy. This is a global era and there are lots of changes taking place both in the internal and external atmosphere of the company. It is for this reason that the leaders in MOL group are trying to develop the next generation of leaders in a proper way. It is for this reason that MOL group tries to lead and develop their followers for the challenging tasks of the upcoming future days. The leadership and management practices that are mainly followed in MOL Group are to prepare their followers for tough and challenging tasks of the future days. The leaders make sure that their followers are able to fight the tough competition. MOL Group has set up two distinct kinds of leadership styles working within their company, one is the LEAD and the other is INTENSITY (User 2018). The LEAD mainly comprises of three different talent pools Emerging Global Leaders Programme It is under this programme that the leaders in MOL group try to train their followers for the meeting g the tough challenges and situations. They look for the talented individuals who can be made ready for taking part in the leadership assignments. Growing Global Leaders Programme It is under this session that the leaders of the MOL group guide their followers to properly accelerate and channelize their careers. The leaders always try to act as a role model for their followers and carry on the process of knowledge sharing (User 2018). In other words, the leaders try to share their knowledge with their followers. The leaders also practice sharing critical knowledge with their followers. The leaders share their own experiences so that the followers can learn from them and enrich their own knowledge. This, in turn, helps the employees of MOL group to achieve senior roles in the company in the near future and they can also fight the tough market conditions. Advanced Global leaders programme It is under this programme that gathers all the well experience leaders and tries to nurture their skills and take them to the next level by teaching them the skills that will enable them to strengthen the organizational performance. The other kind of leadership practice prevalent within MOL group is INTENSITY. This is a leadership practice that helps in molding the leadership skills so that they can constantly face the challenges and deal with them smartly. This programme also makes sure that there is a kind of unity that is maintained throughout the organization. This programme makes sure that the leaders are speaking the same language and promotes respect towards people of all different cultures and groups (Avolio and Yammarino 2013). The leaders in MOL group have also made sure that that they develop a strong partnership with other organizations like global leadership development organization Management Centre Europe. This partnership helps in training the employees properly for m eeting with the future risks (User 2018). Behavioral theory Three different aspects have been identified under his particular leadership theory. The three important functions that must be performed by a leader are authoritarian, under which a leader must know how to exercise his power over the employees (Cawseyet al. 2016). The second one is the democratic leadership where the leader presides over only collective decisions processes(Nahavand 2016). The third is laissez-faire function under which the leader must give total freedom to his employees and avoid taking part in the decision-making process of the organization. However, a little bit of all these three leadership styles are needed within an organization. However, the leaders must keep in mind as to when to exhibit which style of leadership. It can so happen that they are emphasizing more on the authoritarian style as they enjoy bossing and ruling over their employees. The situational theory This is the theory that is the belief that a leader must act as per the need of the situation. This theory also goes by this belief that there is no particular or no best way of leading. The decisions of a leader often change as per the demands of the situation (Birasnav 2014). In every business organization, there are ups and downs. There will be many critical situations arising within a business set up that will require the leader to use the authoritarian style where he will have to rule or control his employees. There can be many tough situations where it will not be possible for the followers to work without the guidance or the suggestion of their leader. The followers always look up to their leader for getting the important piece of advice during the crisis situation. However, this authoritarian leadership will become invaluable if it is used on a day to day basis. The employees will surely not like to get dominated or ruled over at every single time. The Democratic leadership i s also to be used by the leader as per the right situation. Particularly when the organization needs a new business plan or a consensus to be built, the democratic leadership is useful. Similarly, the laissez-faire leadership is a particular kind of style that is to be used by a leader when the employees are experienced people and they need the freedom to work according to their will. However, it has to be kept in mind by a leader that he will have to change his roles as per the situation. If he is too much bossy over his employee, then the employees might become angry and indiscipline(Junker and van Dick 2014). This is natural that no one likes to be ruled upon every time. The employees often require freedom to work as per their will. In order to give his flexibility to the employees, the leader must use the laissez-faire leadership style in such scenario. Environmental theory MOL Group makes sure that there is a proper environment for their employees to work and learn at the same time. It is essential for the employees to have a suitable work environment in their organization so that they can work peacefully. It is not possible for the workers to work properly if there are lots of disturbances going on around them. For the proper progress of an organization the leader in MOL Group makes sure that there is the optimum utilization of the potential of their employees(Birasnav 2014). In order to assure this, the leaders in the MOL Group have to make sure that the employees are happy and comfortable in the workplace. There are often several issues that create an unsuitable work environment (Cawseyet al. 2016). The issues like ego, jealousy, bullying and several other such aspects. Hence, it becomes the prime duty of a leader to see that these negative factors are somehow removed from the environment. The leader must take all the necessary steps in order to cre ate the exact kind of organizational culture that will be suitable for the employees. Transformational theory In MOL group a leader makes sure that they are acting as the role models and their followers can easily follow their footsteps in the near future. This change has to be brought within the work environment, within the employees, and as a whole within the entire system existing within the organization (Mihalache et al. 2014). It is the leader who has to make sure that they are accessible to their followers whenever the followers need them. It is the leader who has to listen to the grievances of all the employees and also cater to their needs. It is the duty of a leader to motivate the followers at every step and help them utilize their potential to the fullest extent. Respectful towards others A leader must be respectful towards others. A leader must not make unethical usage of his power and position. It is a leader who has to make the employees feel wanted within the organization. He will have to effectively listen to the employees and has to be very liberal towards them. He has to have an amicable behavior so that the employees can easily reach out to him. Justice Leaders in MOL group make sure that there is proper law and order being maintained throughout the company. A leader has to have a clear-cut idea regarding the employees and it is for this reason that he needs to build up effective communication. Often some employees enjoy bullying other subordinate employees. This makes the new joiners feel very insecure and they also feel insulted (Hoch and Kozlowski 2014). Apart from this, there can also be several ego clashes within the environment. It is very natural that different employees will have different kinds of opinion. Many employees may also try to cross each other because of their ego. Managers may often have some personal grudges or even favoritism over some particular employee. However, a leader will make sure that there are no prejudices or bias existing within the organization. He must make sure that none of the employees are being treated differently. It is his duty to promote justice and equality within the organization (Mihalac he et al 2014). Community building- In MOL Group the leaders make sure that he has a clear idea about all the different kinds of leadership styles and must use them for the general good of the organization. A leader is one who will always be concerned about the interests of his followers rather than his own personal interest. He must never overlook the interests of the followers. Motivation One of the major qualities of a leader in MOL Group is to motivate the followers. A leader must always work towards building the transparency between himself and his followers. In MOL Group a leader makes sure that he is encouraging his followers at every step (Hoch and Kozlowski 2014). The leaders in this company make sure that they are letting their followers learn from on their own that is through self-awareness and self-reflection process. Conclusion Thereby, it can be concluded that it is the prime duty of a leader to make sure that none of the employees feel unwanted within the organization. It is the duty of a leader to create a culture that will help in making the employees open up and give up all their hesitations. A leader must individually interact with all his employees. He must make sure that the employees do not stay under excessive pressure. It is a leader who must give not only professional but also the emotional support of his followers. A leader must maintain all the business ethics within an organization. He must make sure that none of his actions ever violates any of the company ethics because his followers are going to follow his footsteps in future. Hence, a leader will always have to develop him and lead him before leading his followers. Recommendations A leader must instill the team spirit within his followers. He must practice what he wishes to preach. He must not be bossy over his employees. He must know how to keep calm his calm and deal with his followers patiently. He must not take the undue advantage o his position and power. A leader must train his followers to develop the feelings of mutual respect towards each other. A leader must always motivate all his followers at every single step. A leader must follow the transformational leadership style. As per this leadership style, a leader must work towards bringing about a change within his followers. A leader must conduct individual feedback session with the followers. This will help in enhancing the leader-follower relationship. A leader must lead him first and then start leading others. He must be very much committed to both his professional and personal field. He must have a strong sense of responsibility. A leader must always remember that he is going to be a role model for all his followers. The followers will follow the footsteps of their leader and will seek his help at all steps. A leader must imbibe positive vibes within the business organization. A leader must arrange for a proper training session for the fresher so that they can enrich their skill and can use them properly in their work field. This will no longer make those employees feel insecure. A leader must make sure that there are no jealous feelings existing within the organization. A leader must develop proper communication system within the organization. A leader has to make sure that there are no obstructions in the communication system. No employees must ever hesitate to communicate with one another. A leader must encourage the employees to talk among one another. Being a leader, he must encourage the process of knowledge sharing so that these followers can work together as a team and move forward with the help of their joint efforts References Avolio, B.J. and Yammarino, F.J. eds., 2013. Galveston County, Texas Essays - Health, Psychiatry, Greater Houston

Galveston County, Texas A. Identification of Community In accordance with the Census Bureau of 2010, Galveston County has a population of 291,309 people who live within the region making this area in the southern Gulf Coast region 17th in ranking according to population. Most residents are between the ages of 35 and 64 with Caucasians leading the pack at 58%, followed by Hispanics at 23%, with African Americans trailing at just 14%. Most of the community has a white-collar occupation with the median household income coming to approximately $58,000 per year. Although these numbers may look good, it is an unfortunate fact that 12.8% of the entire population lives below the poverty range with the smallest population of the county having the largest percentage below the poverty line at 28.5%. Of the county's entire community, nearly half of its residents qualify for public assistance (40%), however, according to records released by reviewing the SNAP/ Food Stamp Participation report, 10% of those who qualify accept help. The rate of unemployment is comparable to that of the state of Texas at 6.9% with just 0.7% difference, coming in less than the national rate. Most of the county's residence graduate from high school and continue on to obtain their Bachelor's degree, or even better, a graduate degree! This statistic is comparable to the stats of the rest of the state of Texas and the country. Two states prisons exist within the boundaries of the county which hold 820 co-ed prisoners with the incarceration rate within the local jails remaining slightly greater than that of the state's. Even if the people of Galveston County do not use them, recreation facilities are widely accessible for a healthier lifestyle as well as access to fresh, healthy foods. Just as most residents in the state of Texas, the drinking rate, physical inactivity, and the rate of adults who smoke are comparable. (QuickFacts, 2013) Health concerns relating to illness dealing with communicable diseases are greater than Texas's rate. Galveston County is in the bottom 25% of all the counties in Texas with the greatest concerns focused on serum lead levels amongst pediatrics, (8 out of 24 of all the zip codes), with great concerns over syphilis and varicella trailing. Out of all the Texas counties, Galveston County is ranked second in Mesothelioma contraction with cancer rates showing to be the worst out of all cancers. Because of this fact, this county shows to have a higher than most mortality rate with the rates of preterm births, lower than normal birth weights, and infant mortality reportedly higher than that in the whole of Texas and US. (healthypeople.org, 2013) Residents with insurance are greater than the rate of all Texas residents with health insurance, however, are no comparison when it comes to the national average of insured children 17 and under. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services of 2012, eight areas of the entire county qualify at MAUs, or "Medically Underserved Areas". Most of the concerns of not going to the doctor was not related to cost and was reported lower than the average for Texas with preventable stays as an inpatient was greater. Galveston County is a federally-designated Health Professional Shortage Area, or HPSA, which relates to primary care, and moderately for the dental aspect and mental health providers as well. (HRSA, 2013) Professionals for all branches of healthcare including primary care and specialists are lacking for the entire county, along with dentists to care for oral health as well. Relating to the mental health community, only 31 licensed psych beds exist for every 100,000 residents of the entire county, with only seven facilities available which help with substance abuse. (SAMHSA, 2013) The rate of re-admissions after 30 days for medical problems was comparable with the national average, however, any discharges relating to a surgical procedure or a diabetic patient was greater than average. The overall consensus within the county amongst residents is that good health comes from good health behaviors and abundant preventative health services and medications. According to WHO 2013, the definition of health is "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Most of

Beethovens Symphony No. 9 Essays - Music, Symphony No. 9

Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 Essays - Music, Symphony No. 9 Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 Choral' The 9th Symphony is an amazing piece of music. From the slow opening, to its quick ascent to a powerful clash of instruments, the entire piece is captivating. The incredible part about the entire piece is that from the beginning to the end there is a contrast between soft and loud, always dueling for time. Either there is a strong controlling element running through the music or there is a soft easy melody. The dualism between the deeper instruments playing in contrast to the softer woodwinds makes for an interesting listen. Each time that I have listened to this piece I am always hearing different pieces that I had not heard the time before. The trouble I have had with the piece is that I have a hard time listening to the piece as a whole. Instead I end up hearing either the high pieces or the low pieces, rather than being able to capture the two together as interconnected pieces. Yet, with the excerpts that I have been able to connect the two parts, their differences help unite them into an incredible piece of music. From the onset of the symphony, it appears that the entire piece is based around the conclusion, being Ode to Joy. It seems like everything is just getting ready to build and build into the climax. There being smaller climaxes along the way, but for the most part it is solely preparing the listener for Ode to Joy. The exciting part about the entire piece is that at no time does the listener become lulled into the music and become withdrawn from the music, rather the listener is always attentive to the music waiting and expecting the next note or series of notes, wondering what the composer and conductor have in store. Joseph Glazar November 15, 2000 William Tell This piece by Rossini is a rather devious piece of music. For the most part the listener is put into a position that the entire piece will be rather melodic and peaceful, but in an instant all of that changes and throws the listener for a complete loop. As the Overture warms the listener, one begins to get the idea that a sense of nature is present in the music, with the little chirps from the softer instruments. As the listener continues there begins a low, but ever present rising in intensity coming from all the instruments. From what seemed to be a careless peaceful tone, becomes a menacing and powerful thrust of music. Moreover, as soon as the listener becomes accustomed to the intensity of the music, the composer once again changes it up and softens the mood again. The listener is continuously taken on a roller coaster ride of excitement. The highlight for this listener was the part of the Overture that had been used as the anthem for the Lone Ranger. It is a great example for me of how music can create a vivid memory of life, with it as the background. I have always loved this piece because of how dynamic it was and because of its connection to me as a child. My parents were always trying to find ways for me to enjoy classical music as a child, without creating a distaste for the music. From that I was able to grow into the music. I love the entire piece, and only listen to it in its entirety. The movement through out the piece is very perky, with a little bit of calmness. The listener does not have the opportunity to become complacent with a melody, before it is quickly changed into something that makes one's heart pound. This is an absolutely incredible piece of music. Joseph Glazar November 22, 2000 European History Bibliography The novel that I read for historical reference was that of Charles Darwin's Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex. A.L. Burt Company, Publishers, New York. 1871. p713

Corporate Social Responsibilty and Sustainable Marketing Essay

Corporate Social Responsibilty and Sustainable Marketing - Essay Example "For a long time people were only interested in the process of economic development, and the environment with all its problems was neglected the process of industrialization started many acts have restricted the industries to meet the air, water and land pollution levels"3. Such as: (CO2, fossil fuel combustion causing Global warming. CFCs, Halons destroying Ozone layer. SO2, NH3 causing Acid rain). These impact results- rising of sea level, earthquake, rainfall comes down, flood etc. There are many laws for organization such as- "if there is any sort of work which cause fume facts should have to use pipe no less then 130ft from the top of the building for exit the fume (sec139-d-14-i), Organization using chemical in production process, should have own disposal plant (sec273, a-1)"4. But the problems with the laws is "when the laws are impose strictly to the organization the foreign investment comes lower specially in third world country"5. "Direct action by government within the bus iness sector has not led to improved CSR. Indirect action through legislation may be more effective, but this is not in keeping with the general policy of laissez-faire"6. Beside Government there has been a considerable amount of pressure from stakeholder groups upon business; objective is to use power they have at their disposal to influence the decision making process and there have been a number of notable success. Beside all these, now organizations are solely interested to be more eco-oriented because the organizations are performing CSR and are able to communicate this to the consumer are likely to improve their market share and to develop customer loyalty, as there is growing number of consumers who are prepared to be more aware about the types of good they buy and taking into account the impact their purchases have upon the environment, as a result number of market niches have developed. ## In the business sector, market is the most sophisticated area where a little sound can make a huge change. Previously the market was product oriented because of not having a sufficient level of information in the market place and the public awareness was at a lower level to their environment. As a result overall market was ruled by the business persons/organizations and by utilizing this chance they used Push-pull strategy. Stakeholders were not so interested to seek information, some stakeholders whose wanted to seek information they have no way but to rely on the information given by the organization. This situation caused a great damage to some organization such as Body Shop who had a bad publicity due to fair trade and saved them by taken over by L'Oreal a giant cosmetic company. Now the market is changing rapidly with the time. The main reason of this change is the increasing bargaining power of consumer. The increased level of environmental awareness by the population- owing to easier availability of information- has already led to more informed choice being made by various stakeholder groups that interact with business.7 Customers, suppliers, employees and investors are more aware of their responsibilities to the environment. And there is various ways in which their

The Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act Essay

The Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act - Essay Example Administrative simplification also necessitates set of laws to defend the privacy of personal health information and the institution of security necessities to protect that information and the progress of average identifiers. In turn to efficiently apply the HIPAA Administrative Simplification provisions, the Governor's bureau has prearranged a statewide plan composed of country organizations that might be influenced by its provisions. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) institutes innovative values for the progress and utilization of health care information. There are three types of principles formed by HIPAA namely privacy, security and administrative simplification. All together, these rules have a foremost impact on the everyday functioning of the state's hospitals and influence almost every part of every individual that presents or pays for health Title I of HIPAA standardizes the accessibility and span of group and entity health insurance strategy. It amends together the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Public Health Service Act. Title I moreover confines the boundaries that a group health plan can sets on remuneration for pre-obtainable circumstances. Group health plans might reject to give remuneration connecting to pre-obtainable circumstances for a time of twelve months after the enrollment in the arrangement or eighteen months in the case of delayed enrollment2. Conversely, individuals can diminish this omission period if they had health insurance before signing up in the plan. Title I permits individuals to decrease the omission period by the time that they had "creditable coverage" earlier than signing up in the plan and after any "significant breaks" in coverage. "Creditable coverage" is classified relatively broadly and incorporates almost all group and entity health plans, including Medicare and Medi caid. A "significant break" in coverage is described as any sixty three day phase devoid of any creditable coverage3. A number of health care plans are not liable from Title I necessities, for example enduring health plans and partial scope plans for instance dental or vision plans that are presented individually from the wide-ranging health plan. Still, if such remuneration are a branch of the wide-ranging health plan, then HIPAA applies to such remuneration. For example, if the innovative plan presents dental remuneration, then it should calculate creditable continuous coverage beneath the previous health plan towards any of its omission periods for dental remuneration. HIPAA 3However, an alternate way of estimating

Symbols of a Worn Path Essay Example for Free

Symbols of a Worn Path Essay Phoenix Jackson; an old negro woman that partakes on a journey to take medicine to her sick nephew that is off in another town. Phoenix is old and through the story there are many accounts that I think are symbolic to being of age. Being one with nature Phoenix Jackson is determined to travel through the forest to tend to her sick nephew. The story itself was full of symbols, some that where more noticeable then others. Phoenix’s face was said to look like a tree with burning glow under it. Pretty much saying she was one with nature, that she was in touch with the natural side of things. And her name is Phoenix which is the same name of the mythical Egyptian bird that lives for 500 years, and then dies but for 500 years it regenerates itself. Her name symbolizes in her old age she lives on. In her old age she is also in touch with nature as her tree trunk like face shows. There are many times she talks to the animals: â€Å"Out of my way, all you foxes, owls, beetles, jack rabbits, coons and wild animal! Keep out from under these feet, little bob-whites. Keep the big wild hogs out of my path. Don’t let none of those come running my direction. I got a long way†(1) as in touch she is with nature, there are many instances that the forest showed signs of death when she seen a buzzard sitting on a dead tree, then she seen a scare crow. That also represents death, but she ended up dancing with the scare crow like she was dancing around death. So far through the journey Phoenix came upon many different things. She even had a symbolic dream; which had her reaching for a marble cake from a young boy which symbolized her living for a longer period of time. It also had a simple reason, just her hallucinating because of old age. But along the way Phoenix came across a well that she drank from that meant longevity. A lot of the symbols in the story had to do with her age or death. Soon after she was done drinking from the spring, a black dog came at her growling which symbolizes death once again. She hit the dog and it ran away. After the encounter with the dog Phoenix stumbles in falls into a ditch. Where she douses off and has a dream of her reaching and nobody pulling her up. Which symbolizes God looking down at her but does not reach for her because it is not her time to go to Heaven. After she wakes up from her dream she gets out the ditch and comes across a white hunter with two growling dogs. In her whole Journey she had many encounters with symbols of death, but made it through the forest to get the medicine to her sick grandson. â€Å"Critical discussion of A Worn Path largely has been concerned with thematic interpretation of the work, particularly the storys racial, mythological, and Christian motifs.† (2) Sometimes even called a Christian pilgrimage, because of the times God is mentioned and how she is still holding on to life. And he going through that forest sacrificing herself could go back to the scarifies Jesus did. But even with those things in it, there were still symbols of the mythological creature. As Phoenix walked through the forest she struggled with bad vision and hallucinations but still made it to the hospital to help her grandson. â€Å"The combined effects of her old age, her poor vision, and her poetic view of the world heighten the lyricism and symbolism of the narrative.† (2) Which made the story more interesting to the readers. Every hardship had a different meaning, and brought her closer to her goal.

After she wakes up from her dream she gets out the ditch and comes across a white hunter with two growling dogs.

A Rose for Emily Essays -- A Rose For Emily, William Faulkner

Desperation for love arising from detachment can lead to extreme measures and destructive actions as exhibited by the tumultuous relationships of Miss Emily in William Faulkner's â€Å"A Rose for Emily† (rpt. in Thomas R. Arp and Greg Johnson, Perrine's Literature: Structure, Sound, and Sense, 9th ed. [Boston: Wadsworth, 2006] 556). Miss Emily is confined from society for the majority of her life by her father, so after he has died, she longs for relations that ironically her longing destroys. The despondency and obsession exuded throughout the story portray the predicament at hand. Miss Emily's relationship with her father is a key factor in the development of her isolation. As she is growing up, he will not let anybody around his daughter, particularly young suitors. The town assumes his decision is due to the idea that â€Å"the Griersons [hold] themselves a little too high for what they really [are]† to the point that â€Å"none of the young men [are] quite good enough† (559). Because Emily's father keeps her from everyone, she becomes very attached to him. He dies when she is nearly thirty, her only companion gone. Her strong bond to him is so severe that after his death, she denies he was dead at all and will not give his body up to the authorities for three days. The town observes that because she has â€Å"nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her,† meaning Emily is so desperate for a companion that when her father is gone, she has nothing left to cling to but him (559). However, he has a lasting effect on h er that contributes to her isolation. He instills the Grierson pride, so Daugherty 2 that she often does not interact with others. His influence is â€Å"too virulent and too furious to die† (562). Emily has a ... ...ther is concerned, he denies her the chance for love and detaches her from society. Partial blame can be placed on the attitude he instills in her so that she possesses the â€Å"dignity of the last Grierson† (560). She holds herself above others in the town, save Homer. The town's fickleness and disconnection towards her push her further into isolation. All of these factors finally result in the relationship with Homer. She is so desperate for contact and for love that when she finds them, she is terrified of their leaving. She is pushed then to kill Daugherty 4 Homer, so that love will never leave her again. Miss Emily is a desperate individual formed by the relationships that isolated her, which resulted in her extreme actions. Emily and Homer's short—yet long lived—relationship reveals a common effect of love denied and confinement from contact: destruction.

Stress and Happiness–Cause and Effect

Tylynn Schaber Stress and Happiness Which sounds more fun, doing the dishes or playing a little Xbox? One would probably say playing their game and put the chores on the back burner because they could always do it later. This would be classified as procrastination. Procrastination may cause many negative effects including unnecessary stress and loss of one’s happiness. Procrastination is the practice of poor time management paired with lack of willpower. There are two different types of procrastination: behavioral and decisional.Behavioral procrastination is when one uses procrastination as an excuse to do poorly; for example, one may put off studying for an exam until last minute and blame a bad exam score on the procrastination. Another instant where one may have behavior tendencies is when one has low self-esteem or self-worth and believes that if he or she never finishes a task, he or she will not be judged. Those with decisional procrastination problems typically put off making a decision or choice; they typically are afraid of errors and are possibly perfectionists.Decisional procrastinators generally seek out other alternatives until they are made to make a decision, if they make a decision at all. 20% of the population is guilty of procrastination and recent studies show that it is on the rise. Everyone tends to procrastination, possibly not as often as most but definitely occasionally. One of the effects of procrastination is unnecessary stress. Everyone knows that stress has a very negative effect on oneself. Stress is a type of pressure or worry, usually unneeded.Stress has many effects in itself; it may take a toll on one’s body, one’s mood, and one’s behavior. The tolls it can take on one’s body include headaches, sleep problems, and stomach pains. It can affect one’s body by possibly giving a person anxiety, sadness, or even depression. Stress can affect one behavior be making one go through social withdra ws, angry outbursts, and drug and alcohol abuse. All of these additional symptoms of stress could lead to health problems, which are well worth avoiding.Upon all of the things that can come from stress, stress leads back to procrastination. So the more one procrastinates, the more stress one will get, so therefore the more they will procrastinate. Another effect of procrastination is the threat of one’s happiness. Happiness is the state of being content or completely satisfied. Happiness is important in one’s life because that is what gives one the motivation and will to wake up tomorrow and enjoy the little things of life that often go unnoticed, too.Without happiness, one will become depressed; depression has many, many additional negative symptoms. As you can see, by procrastinating, you can hurt more than just your grade. Procrastination can take effect on nearly every part of your life. It can lead to stress which in the end can take a toll on your health, which i s scary. Procrastination may also take away one’s happiness, which could lead to depression. One should note, it is much easier to do work that can be done today, today, and not put anything off for later.

Categories of Hurricanes

The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale sets categories for the relative strength of hurricanes that may impact the United States based on the sustained wind speed. The scale places the storms into one of five categories. Since the 1990s, only wind speed has been used to categorize hurricanes. To estimate wind speed, the wind and wind gusts are measured over some period of time (typically one minute) and are then averaged together. The result is the highest average wind observed within a weather event.   Another measurement of weather is the barometric pressure, which is the weight of the atmosphere on any given surface. Falling pressure indicates a storm, while rising pressure usually means the weather is improving.   Category 1 Hurricane A hurricane labeled Category 1 has a  maximum sustained wind speed  of 74–95 miles per hour (mph), making it the weakest category. When the sustained wind speed drops below 74 mph, the storm is downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm. Although weak by hurricane standards, a Category 1 hurricanes winds are dangerous and will cause damage. Such damage could include: Roof, gutter, and siding damage to framed homesDowned power linesSnapped tree branches and uprooted trees In a Category 1 hurricane, coastal storm surge reaches 3–5 feet and the barometric pressure is approximately 980 millibars. Examples of Category 1 hurricanes include Hurricane Lili in 2002 in Louisiana and Hurricane Gaston, which hit South Carolina in 2004. Category 2 Hurricane When the maximum sustained wind speed is 96–110 mph, a hurricane is called a Category 2. The winds are considered extremely dangerous and will cause extensive damage, such as: Major roof and siding damage to framed homesMajor power outages that could last days to weeksMany uprooted trees and blocked roads Coastal storm surge reaches 6–8 feet and the barometric pressure is approximately 979–965 millibars. Hurricane Arthur, which hit North Carolina in 2014, was a Category 2 hurricane. Category 3 Hurricane Category 3 and above are considered major hurricanes. The maximum sustained wind speed is 111–129 mph. Damage from this category of hurricane is devastating: Mobile homes destroyed or heavily damagedMajor damage to framed homesMany uprooted trees and blocked roadsComplete power outages and unavailability of water for several days to weeks Coastal storm surge reaches 9–12 feet and the barometric pressure is approximately 964–945 millibars. Hurricane Katrina, which struck Louisiana in 2005, is one of the most devastating storms in U.S. history, causing an estimated $100 billion in damage. It was rated Category 3 when it made landfall.   Category 4 Hurricane With a maximum sustained wind speed of 130–156 mph, a Category 4 hurricane can result in catastrophic damage: Most mobile homes destroyedFramed homes destroyedHomes built to withstand hurricane-force winds sustain significant roof damageMost trees snapped or uprooted and roads blockedElectrical poles downed and outages lasting several last weeks to months Coastal storm surge reaches 13–18 feet and the barometric pressure is approximately 944–920 millibars. The deadly Galveston, Texas hurricane of 1900 was a Category 4 storm that killed an estimated  6,000 to 8,000 people. A more recent example is Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall at San Josà © Island, Texas, in 2017. Hurricane Irma was a Category 4 storm when it hit Florida in 2017, although it was a Category 5 when it struck Puerto Rico. Category 5 Hurricane The most catastrophic of all hurricanes, a Category 5 has a maximum sustained wind speed of 157 mph or higher. Damage can be so severe that most of the area hit  by such a storm could be uninhabitable for weeks or even months. Coastal storm surge reaches more than 18 feet and the barometric pressure is below 920 millibars. Only three Category 5 hurricanes have struck the mainland United States since records began: The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 in the Florida KeysHurricane Camille in 1969 near the mouth of the Mississippi RiverHurricane Andrew in 1992 in Florida In 2017, Hurricane Maria was a Category 5 when it devastated Dominica and a Category 4 in Puerto Rico, making it the worst disaster in those islands histories. When Hurricane Maria hit the mainland U.S., it had weakened to a Category 3.
